![]() I must admit that I am not totally happy with the + I know this sounds crazy but this technique worked much better for me. While the controls are the same as refine edge, it seemed to me that the refine mask worked better. The video then asks you to add your bkg layer. I was letting the refine edge tool do all the work. Perhaps it does not make a difference but I did it anyway. This video has you making a selection on the background and then inversing the selection. I actually had much better luck with CS5 using his technique than I have with the other tutorials that I have been watching. Thanks for posting this link to the video by Martin. Thanks Denny, but don't give up on channel masks.Ralph If I don't get a resolution I intend to contact Adobe and hope they have a fix. It takes from spot but adds somewhere else. I really don't think I am misunderstanding how the tool works but I have not had a successful extract where I used Refine Edge. ![]() ![]() Thanks Denny, this is one video I haven't seen yet, I will check it out tomorrow. I hope we can figure this out as I think channel masking for me is probably over my head at this point. Anyway, here is the link but you probably already know this. I did find this on the website at and it explains a bit more about using the radius and the smart radius which I found helpful but when they get into the refine tools, mine never work like what I am watching online. In other words, the more I use the refine edge / radius tool the worse it looks. It seems that the erase tool seems to put more bkg information in that it took out or it wants to remove my foreground and then I can't add it back it. Nothing seems to work well for me but I will keep trying.Īs for CS5, I am having the same problem with the refine edge/radius tool. ![]() As you know, I have been experimenting with Topaz Remask 3, Refine Edge in CS5 and trying to do some kind of channel masking. I actually can't seem to get good edges with anything that I am trying to be honest with you. ![]()
